Mmm...Refreshing

Refreshing as in sooooo much talent floating about all trying to squeeze themselves into my head and inspire me at the same time!

Okay first KELIS - Believe me when I say I LOOOOOOOOOVE! I mean LOOOVE this woman! To me she was and is always different, always in control of her image and so powerful in terms of her work and her persona! I hated that she was so underrated but loved the fact that because of that I felt like I could sort of claim her as my own- like you know how you find a really good band before their famous? Like that. Well Fleshtones is out and WOOWWWEEEE she's done it again; I LOVE her sound, I LOVE her look, I LOVE everything about her, to me this woman can do no wrong...I just reeallly do not understand why everyone is clambering over Gaga who comes across to me as a bit of an impostor- a fake, someone who has a wider agenda but uses our beloved art and creativity to mask what she is really trying to do (If you don't understand me- which you won't, I suggest you take a look at this website http://vigilantcitizen.com).

Oops I've diverted my thought train, lets get back on track....well I love how she's so honest and so real...she to me is the ideal music artist and 4th of July is a brilliant track with a great video...All I'm going to say is Kelis you are  absolutely brilliant....and with that for those who haven't seen it here is the video to 4th of July...

Now that I've vented my love for this amazing woman let me move on to....
LAURA LAINE
I was into Fashion Illustration a while ago but was only just recently having a look around at the talent dabbling about in the industry, literally I think my jaw unhinged and my eyes almost flew out of my head when I saw this lady's work! AMAZING! I love the movement and the fluidity of the pictures, to me it's really eye catching... Laine's attention to detailing and the slight melancholy / darkness in the face of every girl just pulls my heart strings and draws me in towards the work- I know for a fact that if any of those girls in the pictures were to walk down the street I would literally break my neck trying to admire them as the walked by...Amazing, just Amazing...Here's a few examples of her work...

It's 12.42am so I'll have to pause stop this 3000mph thought train and resume the journey tomorrow

Excuses, Excuses

I'm back again...for how long? I really don't know, I seem to gravitate towards this blog when I have thoughts that need to be put into words.

Okay lets start off with graduate fashion week....
I only attended one day of graduate fashion week this year but wooow the talent was really promising, although it seemed like our young designers were drawing inspiration from similar places. Here are a few of the garments I was interested in- there were more but unfortunately some places I couldn't take photographs.

Voir la! I was particularly impressed with Plymouth's, I really like Nottingham Trent and Middlesex university's collections...And also I got my picture taken for stylsesight.com sliiiightly excited considering I didn't really make thaaat much of an effort for the day.

I'll write some more later on...

I can see in colour

Okay I'm back with a vengeance...2010 is really something- the drama is endless...We lost our Alexander McQueen (R.I.P Lee "Alexander" McQueen), there was the earthquake in Haiti and Chile and murders increasing like there's no tomorrow-- I'm really starting to think the world might be coming to an end! Life must go on I suppose, we'll get past this.

I'm going to leave the explanation as to why I wasn't here and jump straight into, this seasons shows!

Dame Vivienne Westwood....I'm always on and off with her purely because some shows I don't particularly like, I believe that Westwood's garments always play off the idea ugly/unusual can somehow be beautiful! I really do appreciate what she does as a designer but I'm not always so into it. I'm half and half with Vivienne's 2010 Ready to Wear Fall Collection, I love that she appears to have drawn inspiration from that rural sort of persona-- you know? like the milkmaids or the Amish people? Maybe not. I do really love how Westwood has played with colour, texture and volume in this collection- large feminine layered country dresses with bold patterned socks, ruffled skirts complimenting black lace and beautifully patterned tights and also statement t-shirts. The choice of make-up is equally as interesting- I mean....Is that a moustache? Seriously? Haha! I really do love the dramatics, the smeared lipstick and the heavy eye shadow-- it actually add to that persona we associate with Westwood. Another job well done, the collection is playful, definitely something we won't see anywhere else in quite the same way.
To see the collection go to:

Designer, Gareth Pugh is also a name I'd promised myself to keep an eye out for all I can say is he's done it again!!! It's like a sort of Batman meets Star Trek, meets sexy cyborg kind of union...It's beautiful!! You can just see the amount of effort and thought that has gone into the collection, it is well crafted, clean and associates itself very much with pretty sculptural shapes.

OH MY GAWWSSHHH!!!

Right okay so I'm looking through the Spring 2010 Ready-to-wear collections....One word....FIIIIIIIIREEEEE!! WOOW no seriously!!

John Galliano
Gareth Pugh
Chanel
Anna Sui
Alexander McQueen
Versace
Alexander Wang
Hussein Chalayan
Givenchy

WOOOOOO it is FIIIIIREEE!! Seriously I'm literally on the edge of my couch, mouth ajar, eyes fixated on these visions of beauty. Usually as a designer you set to out do yourself but WOWZERS! Seriously!

2010 Baby- it's going to be beautiful! Anyone looking at these collections could only assume that they have died and gone to heaven. There is something so bold about these 2010 Ready-to-wear Spring Collections! I see metallics, prints, big hair, shoulder pads, dramatics, colour and the very foundations of masculinity and femininity definition disappear! This year it also appears that designers are trying new things, new concepts, new materials, new techniques- I must say I am very impressed...It's good to see that after all the years of recognition and fame these designers still hold a certain passion in what they do!

Unfortunately I'm back at uni so I won't really have much time to update!
I will definitely take a closer look at these collections and add some more posts. Look...Can you see it? My mouth's watering! I can't wait!

*Givenchy Spring/Summer Campaign*

Yes Yes Yes I SHOULD be asleep but instead I'm on the Dazed and Confused website- definitely worth it since I've come across the new ad campaign for Givenchy's Summer/Spring Collection 2010!!! I'm loving (I mean LOVING) what I've seen so far of this collection, it's so energetic! Not to mention it has one of my favourite male models featured, Simon Nessmann! I'll be completely honest with you...I haven't really paid much attention to Givenchy since the Ready-to-wear Fall Collection 2009 (fetauting one of my favourites, the beautiful Karen Elson) but I will obviously be viewing this collection and telling you what I think! Looking at this campaign has just reminded me of how brilliant Riccardo Tisci is! Always a picture of elegance bordering closely on edge!! You've opened my eyes Mr.Tisci I'll definitely be on a close lookout for you in the near future!

Speaking of models where...I said WHERE the hell has Luke Worrall disappeared to? Okay yes I have noticed him in that Uniqlo Campaign but otherwise I haven't really seen him in as many magazines as I used to, probably has something to do with his engagement to Kelly Osbourne hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...WELL I wish them the best of luck and I hope to see a lot more of him in 2010!

Check out uniqlo (Very nice clothes, if I do say so myself)

PLAN FOR 2010

More posts to follow
Well , a New Year has once again caught me by surprise, seemed like only yesterday I was planning things I was going to accomplish for the year (unfortunately my one resolution- to go the gym failed miserably).
I managed to do some work with Elite Model Management, get another placement and also meet some new faces. This year I want more! I still feel very unfulfilled and uneasy about my lack of creative expression over the year 2009. So for 2010 I'm going to try a different approach to life!!

FIRST
Get to the gym & Eat healtier: No, SERIOUSLY go to the gym!!! My life of Chinese take away, McDonald's and greasey food in general has got to stop. In order to feel better about myself I need to eat better! Being fat ain't pretty!

SECOND
Start visiting more art galleries: Who is entering for the Turner prize this year..........................................THAT'S RIGHT YOU DON'T KNOW, so more gallery visits!

THIRD
SKETCH, SKETCH, SKETCH: I won't improve my drawing skills if I don't practice simple as!! So more portraits more everything--I'll go get some sketch books.

FOUR
Subscribe to Dazed and Confused and Vogue: DAMMIT! this is something I should have done ages ago, this year I'll subscribe.

FIFTH
Get some fashion related work experience: I'm not doing what I want to do at the moment, so I have to make the most of things. I have to learn and experience things if Art/Fashion is where my heart is at.

So these are the goals I would like to achieve by the end 2010, Can't be too ambitious can we! I wish you all the best of luck with your new years resolutions this year!!

This year it's go hard or go home!

*2010- Prints, Pads and McQueen, OH YES!*

***********HAPPY NEW YEARS PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!***********

Okay...so I've decided that I can't just keep sitting around and thinking all these things, I need somewhere to write down my thoughts on everything- low and behold the internet. To think I spend so much time on this computer and completely missed the fact that I could start a blog, so here we are, first post here we go....

I've been a constant on the site www.style.com for a while now and couldn't help but fall in absolute and dire LOVE with Alexander McQueen's 2010 ready-to-wear spring collection. What a way to start 2010- bold, vibrant and in complete demand of your attention!! I can definitely see a play on "symmetry" and "balance" which has been incorporated into not only the detailing of the print but also the into the mixture of a warm and a cold palette (See Below).

I can also see that McQueen has put a lot of thought into the silhouettes of his pieces- surely a strong print needs a strong shape. I'm very impressed with the variety of shape his Spring collection has produced, I'm seeing puffed sleeves, I'm seeing shoulder pads, I'm seeing puffed trousers, puffed skirts all in one show and I'm not thinking Oh God! There definitely (in my opinion) appears to be an "android-type" quality to this collection, in the styling and also the accessories- notice how the shoes appear very much like parts of a machine. 2009 was very controversial and exciting for Alexander McQueen it appears as though he's setting the standards for other designers yet again- I'm wishing him the best of luck in 2010 even though we all know he does not need it! He is actually a genius!

Since Lady Gaga's new single "Bad Romance" premièred at this show he's the video (check the McQueen piece at the beginning)
